Asian Disparates
Dragons of the East has new mystic groups. Whether they are mages,
hedge wizards or both is left to Storytellers to decide.
- Go Kamisori Gama - Starting in 1864, this Japanese group use their martial arts, magic & cutting-edge technology for assassination, spying, theft, bodyguard duty & security consulting. Although they have no connection to real ninja, they have adopted that image. No goals are stated in the write-up other than keeping themselves secret & making money. They get access to high tech equipment & even cybernetic implants through their underworld contacts who turn out to be a group within the 5 Metal Dragons, Asian Technocracy. As a result the 5 Metal Dragons know much about the Go Kamisori Gama’s doings. pg. 77
- Toc Faan - In the 9th century, in what is today Cambodia, priests & warriors of Devaraja cults served the Khmer god-kings. They performed bloody rites that served the rulers & held the citizens in check. In time, that religion fell out of favor with both rulers & citizens. Centuries later the inheritors of the Toc Faan lacked influence & the full knowledge of their past rituals. They devoted themselves to one of the Yama Kings for power & soon found themselves involved in gruesome practices. They supported the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s & increased the body count to ensure a supply of victims for their arts. They are now ensnared in a deal with dark powers they wish they could escape. They engage in cannibalism but feel bad about it. They recruit the worst kind of criminals for acolytes, have infernal investments, & search for a way to return to the original magic they practiced in past centuries. pg. 79
- Tai Hoi Li - This group is a mystery to outsiders. Started by Vietnamese farmers trapped in the underground Cu Chi tunnels during the Vietnam conflict of the 1970s, they remain in that tunnel system to this day. Their leader is said to be a blind farmer named Tai Hoi. Members occasionally emerge to quietly buy food & other necessary items but they refuse to answer questions & magic used to gain information from them never works. All attempts to magically scry on their underground lairs meets a cold, smooth barrier that no one can breach. Some members of this group gouge out their own eyes while others are born blind or even without eyes. Their goals are unknown & the mystic ability they’ve developed in only 30 years has some mages worried. pg. 82
- Sons of Tengri - Mongolian shamans who have suffered severely from Buddhism’s spread in the past & the Technocracy’s spread in recent times. The group became an underground movement long ago when Buddhism became prominent & had to hide even better when Technocrats began oppressing them in 1924. Their leaders were killed by Technocrats in 1982 but younger members continued recruiting new members. Their magic is similar to Dreamspeaker practices but they do not link themselves to totem spirits. They have especial reverence for Tengri, god of the heavens, & Itugen the Earth Mother. Recent political changes in Mongolia are granting them more freedom & they have hope for the future. pg. 84
