I never do readings for myself, because of a peculiar mixture of superstition, fear of self-fulfilling prophecy, and simple pride. Let me explain. I believe that divination in general, and the Tarot in particular, is simply a tool for unlocking that part of the human mind that can be, at times, more insightful when it comes to understanding the evaluation of current events, motivations, and tendencies, and in predicting their inevitable consequences. As such, in my opinion, mechanical means of divination are the equivalent of mental 'training wheels' that are not required (nor desired) after a certain rapport is achieved with the afforementioned part of the magickian's psyche. This portion of the psyche is responsible for the 'little voice' that warns of impending danger, the 'gut feeling' that something is wrong, et al. For the past couple of years I have been working diligently to listen for this 'voice' and, if not follow the path it recommends, at least be on my guard and keep my eyes wide open. As much of the mental recreation/reflection of the world we're jacked into (via our sense conduits) is assembled either in idle thought or in dreams, it seems perfectly logical to me that there might be areas of mind with either more or different insight into unfolding events. Tapping this reserve should be one of the ongoing goals of any serious work. In fact, I'd venture to say that this may be yet another metaphor for contact and conversation with the HGA. Or vice versa. Rev. Dr. Corey Bantik
